Concrete Text and Math Fonts

For the first time available in hinted Type 1 format

November 30, 1999, New York.

MicroPress is proud to announce immediate availability of the Concrete Text and Math font families in hinted Type 1 format. Concrete Text fonts have been designed by Donald Knuth for his Concrete Mathematics book; matching Math fonts have been designed by Ulrik Vieth.

While the Knuth's Computer Modern family has been widely accepted in scientific publishing, his newer Concrete design has not been very commonly used---since until now scalable versions of the Concrete fonts simply had not been available. They are now!

Just like the Computer Modern family, the Concrete fonts include multiple design sizes. The existing macro support for the Concrete fonts (the concrete, concmath, and beton styles) makes the MicroPress Concrete fonts immediately useful for most TeX systems.

Concrete fonts are darker than the Computer Modern fonts and usually much more legible in online documentation (Pdf). MicroPress uses Concrete fonts to typeset most of its program documentation.

The Concrete Set includes forty Type 1 fonts (.pfb): Concrete Text (12 fonts): cccsc10 ccmi10 ccr10 ccr5 ccr6 ccr7 ccr8 ccr9 ccsl10 ccsl9 ccslc9 ccti10 + Concrete Math (28 fonts): xccam10 xccam5 xccam6 xccam7 xccam8 xccam9 xccbm10 xccex9 xccex7 xccex8 xccex10 xccbm9 xccbm6 xccbm8 xccbm7 xccbm5 xccmi9 xccmi5 xccmi6 xccmi7 xccmi10 xccmi8 xccsy10 xccsy5 xccsy6 xccsy7 xccsy8 xccsy9 as well as the matching .pfm, .tfm, .afm, and .inf files.

MicroPress' Concrete Text and Math fonts can be used with VTeX (including the free versions on Linux and OS/2), dvips, and other TeX applications on Wintel and Unix platforms that can work with Type 1 fonts and tfm's.

VTeX users: please note that the entire Concrete Font Set is included in the VTeX/Pro distribution.
