New Features
The following features are added to the 5.0 version:
-
Support for more graphics formats and color graphics imbedding via the new
bitmap.sty (Thanks, M.K!). VTeX now understands BMP, PCX, TIFF,
GIF, TARGA and JPEG formats (in color); bitmap.sty is a new
powerful and easy-to-use package for the picture positioning (works
with both PLAIN and LATEX.)
-
Resolution-independent PostScript output (thanks, T.H.!). Now VTeX output
can be easily converted to .PDF files.
-
Anti-aliasing of fonts greatly improves preview quality (thanks, G.W.!).
By correctly chosing anti-alising parameters, you can achieve preview
quality superior to any other previewer.
-
Support of Type 1 fonts in PostScript driver and under ATM.
-
Import of Type 1 fonts (conversion to the .IF4 format): you can also convert
Type 1 fonts to the VTeX native format. Converted fonts can be used with all
VTeX drivers under both DOS and Windows and support anti-aliasing and
font effects.
-
VTeX 5.0 allows great variaty of format files you may create.
- TeX dialect: Plain, LaTeX 2.09, LaTeX 2E, AmsTeX, MyOwnGreatFormat,....
- Base font set: MicroPress, CM, Concrete, New Math,.....
- Hyphenation language: English, German,...
The new format manager eliminates confusion and
makes chosing and building format files easy.
-
Another NEW: Installable Hyphenation Tables. VTeX 5.0 separates hyphenation
tables from the rest of the format file. This makes it easy to
choose separately the format and the hyphenation language (f.e. LaTeX and
German). And the %Option string is there to remember what file
requires what options....
-
Support of virtual fonts.
-
Format-dependant include files for TeX. You can set format files separately
for different formats. This way LaTeX 2.09 will never choke on a similarly
named include for LaTeX 2E.
